The Juniata Veterans Council received a special gift this week, that I would like to share. First a little back story. Last September, the Veterans Council Honor Guard, said a final farewell to a WW II combat veteran, Wayne Aldinger. This veteran was the grandfather of one of our younger members-Drew Aldinger. Drew has a brother, Lane, who is currently deployed to Afghanistan. We asked Drew if we could video some of the ceremony so that we could make a DVD to send to him. We also received permission to post the video to the Council website-this was the never done before.
This past Monday we had a funeral. This was Drew's last funeral with the Honor Guard for the next 2 years ( he is now at Fort Bragg, training as a Special Forces Medic). Before he left, he presented, to the Honor Guard Commander, John Bell, a folded flag with an American Flag Certificate, as a thank you to the group. This flag was raised over Camp Morehead, Afghanistan, lowered and folded. This is, with much pride, a photo of this gift. Thank you Major Lane Aldinger and thank you Sgt. Drew Aldinger. This will be displayed in the American Legion Post 298 on a wall set aside for the Veterans Council.
