The Juniata County Veterans Council consists of volunteer military veterans with an honorable separation and valid DD214 or equivalent. They represent all of the United States service branches. The Juniata County Veterans Council Honor Guard provides a dignified representation to fellow veterans , families and the general public, at local funeral services, ceremonies, parades and other civic events. At each military funeral, we strive to provide a complement of veteran participants (when possible) consisting of 7 riflemen on a firing line, 1 or more flag bearers, bugler, a detail leader and 2 members for flag folding and presentation. The Honor Guard are dressed in either the uniform of their respective service branch or in the uniform of the American Legion or VFW. The Honor Guard function is to render a final salute at the funeral services for the deceased veteran. Also at this time, the detail Chaplain will recite a short invocation. They will then perform a three rifle volley at the cemetery or whatever is deemed appropriate by the family. The Flag of our Country is then removed from the casket, folded and on behalf of a grateful nation, presented to the next of kin. The bugler then plays taps to end the ceremony. ALL honorably discharged veterans are entitled to this ceremony at time of interment. This ceremony is provided at no cost. No Council members receive remunerations. Donations to The Juniata County Veterans Council, however, are greatly appreciated but NOT required. Juniata County Veterans Council is tax-exempt under section 501(c). All donations are tax deductible. Our ID # is available upon written request.
