Veterans Appreciation Night
“they shall not be forgotten”
The Juniata County Agricultural Society is sponsoring the 2018 County Fair at the Port Royal Speedway. The Fair Board has set aside time for a special event on Thursday evening Sept 6, 2018 from 5:30 to 8:00. This Event is FREE and open to the public. With the help of the county veterans service organizations, Veteran Affairs Officer and private contributions, they wish to recognize, honor and thank our veterans, both past and present, for their service to our country. The guest speaker will be prior county resident and former Chief of Staff of the U. S. Air Force, General Ronald R. Fogleman, Ret. And the Master of Ceremonies will be Chuck Rhodes (U.S. Navy). Music by The Country Thunder Band, Vocals by the Boyz, bagpipers from Quittpahilla Highlanders and TAPS by E. Kenneth Bair II And a BIG surprise. We will also be dedicating a new addition to the fair grounds. Hanging on 39 utility poles will be, semi-permanent, 24” x 48” color banners. On these banners will be either a photo, a likeness or a representation of, our fallen heroes with some information about their service, covering WW I, WW II, Korea and Vietnam. All of these veterans served during a time of global conflict. All had a connection to this community and ALL made the ultimate sacrifice. Also, at the conclusion of the main program, ALL veterans present, who served in uniform from 1 November 1955 through 15 May 1975, regardless of location or assignment, are eligible to receive a Vietnam War Commemoration Pin. Parents, spouse, siblings and children of Vietnam Veterans whose names are inscribed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall, are entitled to receive a Certificate of Honor and a Gold Star Commemoration Pin. Also, spouses of all Vietnam War era veterans who died after their service, are entitled the receive a Certificate of Honor and a Blue Star Commemoration Pin. This is in Accordance With Public Law 110-181 SEC.598; the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. For further details, arrangements and or questions, please call or email.
